Facebook said in a statement that one factual assumption of these negative stories was wrong in the first place. "Yes, we are a company and we make profits, but the notion that Facebook makes money at the expense of the safety and well-being of our users misunderstands the source of our own business interests. As a matter of fact, we invested $13 billion and employed more than 40,000 people to do one thing, and that is to keep Facebook users safe.
