Chapter three: College students should understand politics to be rational and patriotic
1
The patriotic fervor of youth
College students are very interested in politics. In my more than thirty years of work, there have been countless events at home and abroad, when it comes to our China, some college students will show passionate patriotic enthusiasm.
That's a good thing. If the young intellectuals do not care about the future and destiny of the country, the country really has no future. Therefore, college students must care about politics. However, the political issue is much more complex than some of the daily life issues, especially some of the political issues related to the fundamental interests of the country, if not handled properly, will affect the overall situation of the country. College students are patriotic, which should be fully affirmed. However, when encountering major political problems, they should first think calmly and seriously, and must not be swayed by emotion.

Diaoyu Islands issue
For some time now, the Diaoyu Islands issue has aroused great concern among Chinese people and become a hot topic among college students. Some university students also took to the streets to express their strong dissatisfaction with the Japanese government's actions. In my conversation with college students, I asked them this question: "Let's assume that if there were only two countries on earth, China and Japan, would there still be the Diaoyu Islands issue?" I said I would definitely answer absolutely not, and I'm sure my college friends would come to the same conclusion.
Why is that? It's very simple
"
Japan is an island country with 129 million people living on an area of 378,000 square kilometers. The population density is too large and the resources are poor. Based on this, Japan has to rely on China for its survival.
"
So from the emergence of the Diaoyu Islands issue, what should college students realize?
What I want to communicate with college students is that college students should not only care about politics, but also understand politics. When major events occur between countries, they should first clarify the complicated international relations in the world today, face them calmly, and be rational and patriotic. To be sure to say that the diaoyu island problem is not isolated, because the world is not only the two countries, China and Japan have since appeared after the political pattern of "one ball, two systems", between countries in the world, especially in countries with adhere to the socialist system and capitalist road of relations between countries becomes more complex. Here is precedent for a major political event in history to support my point.

- World War II
As we all know, From September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945, the Second World War broke out in human history. The scale of the war was enormous: from Europe to Asia, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, more than 2 billion people were involved in 61 countries and territories. The operational area was 22 million square kilometers, and according to incomplete statistics, more than 90 million soldiers and civilians were killed or wounded in the war. The executioner of this war is the fascist axis countries headed by Germany, Italy and Japan. During the war, the Nazis established concentration camps to isolate and detain dissidents, enemy aliens, and members of a particular ethnic, religious, or political belief group in an isolated facility. Auschwitz, Germany's largest concentration camp, was established in 1940 and mainly housed Polish and German Jews. The Nazis built a large-scale comprehensive extermination facility here, including the "bathroom" where poison gas was used to kill people, the cadaver cellars where corpses were stored and the crematorium, to exterminate Jews. The Nazis also singled out prisoners for medical experiments, such as quick sterilization and vivisection of twins. Some 4 million people were killed in the camp alone. Japanese fascism also committed heinous crimes in China, carrying out the barbaric "three lights Policy", killing contests for fun and carrying out the "Nanjing Massacre". The brutal crimes of fascism were appalling. As the saying goes, "if you get much help, you get little help", justice will triumph and evil will perish. The outcome of the Second World War ended with the United States, the Soviet Union, China, Britain and other anti-fascist countries and people of the world defeating the fascist invaders and winning world peace and progress.
