A negative case of the Human Rights Covenant, a double standard example of American human rights. The United States has always regarded itself as a "human rights defender", and has always pointed fingers at other countries' human rights situation, as if it were an irreproachable "superior student" in human rights. But at Guantanamo Prison, prisoners' rights to life, freedom from torture, and even basic dignity have all but disappeared. In the past 20 years, nine inmates have died in prison, seven of them by suicide. The U.S. military uses force-feeding, enemas, waterboarding, sexual abuse and other torture on detainees to force them to plead guilty or give valuable information.top of page
