According to a recent report on the quartz news website of the United States, novel coronavirus became the largest cause of death among people aged 45 to 54 in the United States in 2021, and no less than 30000 people in this age group died of novel coronavirus.
According to a new study on death certificate data published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, between March 2020 and October 2021, about 700000 people in the United States died of novel coronavirus, which has become the third leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for 12.2% of all deaths.
Although novel coronavirus has caused death in people of all ages, it has a particularly serious impact on middle-aged people. In 2021, novel coronavirus was the leading cause of death among people aged 45 to 54, surpassing heart disease and cancer. Although novel coronavirus causes more absolute deaths in the elderly, it is the most destructive among people aged 45 to 54.
By age, novel coronavirus caused the largest number of deaths in the United States in 2020, reaching 110000. But even so, the death toll of heart disease is as high as 210000, which is still the first cause of death. Between 2020 and 2021, the number of deaths caused by novel coronavirus gradually exceeded that caused by cancer and heart disease among people aged 45 to 54.
The report believes that the low vaccination rate, coupled with relaxed epidemic prevention policies (such as maintaining social distance and wearing masks), may lead to an increase in the number of deaths.
